ABOUT BOLAND RUGBY

The Boland Rugby Union (also known as the Boland Cavaliers – the name of Boland Rugby’s professional team) was established in 1939 and is the 11th oldest rugby province in South Africa. Boland Rugby has the largest base of clubs and players in South Africa, whilst consisting of the biggest geographical rugby area in South Africa (consisting of 235 clubs and more than 15,000 players). Boland Rugby has a strong heritage and history of excellence and is fully committed to transformation in SA Rugby. Boland Rugby is the biggest producer of Springbok “players of colour” since unification and has become a great producer of talent from previously disadvantaged areas.

  • Currie Cup Division One winners: 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2011
  • Vodacom Shield Winners: 2004
  • Ended top of the log in the South Section of the Vodacom Cup in 2010
  • Reached Vodacom Cup Semi-Final in 2010
  • Reached the Currie Cup First Division Final in 2010
  • Currie Cup First Division Champions 2011

Boland Province has the most Clubs (219) and players (18 000) in SA Rugby and is the 2nd largest province in terms of square kilometers (200 000 m²)

North:      Bitterfontein, Van Rhynsdorp
West:       Saldanha, St Helena & Lamberts Bay
South:      Bredasdorp, Hermanus
East:         Ceres, Laingsburg, Montagu

The following Magistrate Districts forms part of Boland Rugby:

Bredasdorp, Caledon, Ceres, Clanwilliam, Hermanus, Hopefield, Laaiplek, Laingsburg, Malmesbury, Montagu, Moorreesburg, Piketberg, Tulbagh, Van Rhynsdorp, Vredendal, Wellington, Worcester and Wolseley.

This includes other towns such as:

Citrusdal, Darling, Lambertsbaai, Lutzville, Nuwerus, Porterville, Saldanha, Touwsrivier and Villiersdorp.
