A history of performance – for club, province and country, Roodepoort Rugby is a bastion of excellence that has stood the test of time.

From Roodepoort Rugby Club was started in June of 1943 and was associated with The West Rand Rugby Sub division under the name of Rand Leases Rugby Club. In 1945 the club was promoted to senior status and in 1948 the club changed its name to Rand Leases Roodepoort Rugby Club.

Under the leadership of Chris van Coller, who was elected as chairman in 1977, the club changed its name to Roodepoort Rugby Club on the 30th of November 1978. This is also the date that the second constitution of the club came into affect. The 3rd constitution of the club came into affect on the 17th of November 1992 under the new chairman Ludie Torien.
